James E. Faumuina is a veteran, deployed in 2009 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving as a planner and facility manager for the theaters only regional trauma center. He commanded Hawaii’s first medical CBRNE and All Hazards Medical response unit. He participated as part of military delegations to Nepal, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, and he has led Mil to Mil engagements with the Hawaii National Guard, Armed Forces Philippines and Tentara Nasional Indonesia.
James has worked in non-profit, government and philanthropic organizations like Parents and Children Together, The Leeward YMCA, Hawaii Community Foundation, and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. He worked with low-income populations and public housing communities. James designed and implemented one of the first matched savings programs in Hawaii for underserved communities and created the Economic Development Center in Kuhio Park Terrace as a community-based program to facilitate starting a business, gaining employment, or attending college.
Born and raised in Hawaii. He earned his bachelor's in psychology from the University of Hawaii-Manoa in 1993, master's degrees in public administration from Troy State University and business administration from Chaminade University. He is a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College and Air War College.
He is a certified USAF Hospital Administrator, FEMA medical planner, USAF Medical Readiness Planner and trained and experienced Group Facilitator.
